Understanding the Journey: The 5 phases of fungal nail recovery
If you have ever dealt with a fungal nail infection (onychomycosis), you know it is not something that disappears overnight. Since toenails grow slowly, the healing process is a journey that requires the right treatment and, most importantly, consistency.
To help you track your progress with FunghiClear, we use a professional 5-phase clinical assessment tool. This guide helps you identify where you are in the recovery process and what to look for as your healthy nail returns.
What is FunghiClear®?
Before we dive into the phases, let's take a closer look at FunghiClear.
FunghiClear® is a topical spray specifically designed to combat and prevent brittle and discolored toenails, and support healthy nail growth.
What sets FunghiClear® apart is its unique, natural formula featuring Organic Manuka oil. This powerful ingredient is known for its antifungal and antibacterial properties while remaining gentle on the skin and nails. Since it is a spray, it is easy to apply and can also be sprayed inside the shoes to help prevent re-infection.
The 5 phases of recovery
As you begin using FunghiClear®, your nails and the surrounding skin will go through these stages:
Phase 1: The active infection
In this early stage, the infection is often at its peak. You may notice:
- Redness and swelling around the nail folds and cuticles.
- The nail bed may feel thickened and painful.
- The nail itself appears discolored (white, yellow, or even dark brown) and is often brittle or deformed.
- Growth is usually completely stalled.
Phase 2: First signs of improvement
As FunghiClear® begins to work, the "grip" of the fungus starts to loosen:
- While the nail is still brittle, you may see a slight improvement in the structure, often at the base of the nail.
- The overall condition of the skin remains moderate, but the intense redness may begin to stabilize.
Phase 3: Stabilization
This is the "turning point." You are now halfway there:
- Redness around the cuticles is minimal or gone.
- The nail structure becomes firmer and less crumbly.
- The breakthrough: You can see the very beginning of healthy, new nail growth.
Phase 4: Healthy growth takes over
The results of your consistency are now visible to the naked eye:
- The skin and cuticles return to their normal color and shape.
- The new nail growth is clear and healthy, even if the "old" affected part at the tip is still yellowish.
- The new nail begins to reattach firmly to the nail bed.
Phase 5: Complete recovery
You have reached the final goal:
- The nail folds are healthy, and the "half-moon" (matrix) is clearly visible again.
- The new nail is strong, clear, and fully attached to the nail bed.
- Healthy growth has taken over most of the nail.
People may start at different phases depending on their own condition, however these phases outline the steps to recover and full nail regrowth.
Consistency is key
Toenail growth is slow, and full regrowth of a healthy toenail may take several months, even up to a year. It is important to continue with FunghiClear® twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening) for the full duration of nail regrowth. Please note people may start at different phases depending on their own condition, however these phases outline the steps to recover and full nail regrowth.
Don't forget to spray your shoes! Fungus can live in your footwear for a long time, leading to a cycle of re-infection. By treating both your feet and your shoes with FunghiClear®, you give your nails the best chance at a full, healthy recovery.
Important note: if condition worsens or you do not see improvement at the base of the nail within 3 months of use, consult with your footcare professional for treatment options. Discontinue use immediately if skin irritation occurs.
